Pollutants from construction materials

Asbestos

One of the major pollutants emitted from construction materials is asbestos. This pollutant is, particularly, common in buildings built in the early years. Asbestos is known to cause asbestosis, a fast-killing cancer. Other pollutants emitted by building materials include paint, formaldehyde and radon. Such pollutants are known to cause respiratory issues. In the short term whizzing, cough, sore throat and nasal congestion may be noted. However, in the long run, the health effects are more severe, ranging from asthma, rhinitis, dyspnea, lung diseases and cancer.
